Year One! (2011 – 2012)

2011 – 2012 was our first year as a homeschool family.

so welcome to Sojourn Academy!  That’s the name of our school.  I choose the fleur-de-lis as the symbol for our school because our calling to homeschool came while we were in Louisville, KY.  We moved to Louisville for Kevin to attend Southern Seminary.  That was in 2005.  Wyatt had attended public school for K-5 but had asked to be homeschooled.  He has some really good friends who were homeschooled and he thought it would be so fun to homeschool like they did.  I’m not sure that he really wanted to be homeschooled as much as he thought we could have a field trip to our friend’s house on a regular basis.  Leah was born when Wyatt was about to turn 5.  When she was about 4 months old, Kevin felt the Lord’s call to full time ministry.  The next year was spent preparing to go to Seminary.  We moved to KY in July of 2005.  During Kevin’s first year of Seminary, we knew that in time, the Lord would provide the way for us to homeschool.  That was 6 years ago.  The kids attended public school in KY during those years.

In July of  this year, we moved to SC and with many blessings from the Lord, we are able to homeschool.   Even though I had wanted to homeschool for years, the reality of it was quite overwhelming.  The Lord heard my prayer and has placed us in a town that has a thriving homeschool co-op.  So, on Monday’s we attend co-op where the kids have classes in writing, literature, science and history.  At home Tuesdays thru Fridays, we learn math, spelling, vocabulary, and expand on the co-op classes.  I consider it an honor to teach my children.  My prayer is that my children will learn and that they will enjoy learning.  More than the things they learn in their text books, I pray that they will learn more and more about the man and woman that God has planned for them to be.
