The king stood by the pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the LORD–to follow the LORD and keep his commands, regulations and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, thus confirming the words of the covenant written in this book. Then all the people pledged themselves to the covenant.My prayer for our United States of America is that we, as a nation, would do exactly what Josiah — and all the people — did; that we would become a nation that follows the Lord. Today I pray that you will meditate on this verse, on this covenant as you prepare to vote on Tuesday. Joy to You!
I don’t claim to be politically minded but with the upcoming election this week, I am very aware of the importance of our nation turning our hearts to the Lord. I was reminded of King Josiah yesterday morning in church and the covenant he made with the Lord as his nation turned their hearts back to the Lord. It’s found in the first part of 2 Kings 23:3. It says:
