“Convention is a verb” – HMJ 3/18/12

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…
What a week!   We had three full days of school accompanied by three full days of cleaning, laundry …….. the list goes on.  It was totally worth the frenzy.  I mentioned last week that the kids and I were headed to Spartanburg for the Teach Them Diligently Convention on Thursday.  We were so excited about our trip and it lived up to the expectation.  On our way to the convention, we stopped in Columbia, SC and had breakfast with sweet friends from TX.  They were not in SC for the convention but rather in town for Spring Break to visit family.  That was just an added treat to our week!   After breakfast, we headed on to Spartanburg, had lunch with my mom, my sister, and our friends Marcy and Ben from KY.  After lunch, we headed to the convention hall.

Since this is our first year to homeschool, it was also our first convention.  We had the opportunity to hear Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis, Doug Phillips of Vision Forum, and many more.  Good friends from KY came to the convention so we had a wonderful time of catching up and enjoying time with them.    I also ran into a friend that I had lost touch with and not seen in something like 16 years.  The sessions were encouraging and inspiring.  The vendor hall had a ton of great booths with awesome resources.

A friend made the statement that “convention is a verb” and I totally get that in hindsight.  It was exhausting but so worth it!

In our homeschool this week…
Our week was short based on our travels.  We worked hard to get a few extra things in since we took Thursday and Friday off from the classroom.  The kids had the opportunity to go to sessions at the convention also so they were still learning and being challenged.

I am inspired by…
Being around so many other families that homeschool.  It was really cool to just sit and observe; there were big families and small families.  Families with older kids and families with younger kids and families with all ages in between.  There were friends that were connecting and new friends being made.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
We brought our friends Marcy and Ben home from the convention with us so we are seeing them!!  We have a day trip to Charleston, SC planned with them this week.  It should be fun.

My favorite thing this week was…
The convention.

I’m grateful for…
Safe travels!

I’m praying for…
Many friends!

A photo, video, link, to share…
I mentioned my friend Marcy.  You should check out her blog Ben and Me.  There you will find a wealth of information and resources for homeschooling.  She also has a blog on getting healthy and losing weight called Bought with a Price.  Even if you’re not trying to lose weight, this site is a great place for encouragement and resources for being healthier.

A photo, video, quote to share…
Heard this at the convention:  You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.   ~ Charles Jones

Thanks for joining my   journey as I share a little bit of life through The Homeschool Mother’s Journal.

Joy to you!
